European association of free trade ( AELE), free trade area created in 1959 by the Agreement of Stockholm, come into effect in 1960, and consisted at the origin of Austria, of Denmark, by Great Britain, by Norway, by Portugal, by Sweden and by Switzerland. Established{*constituted*} at instigation of Great Britain which refuses the project of economic and political union which implies the creation of the European Economic Community, the AELE has not for ambition to realize an economic union between its members, but aims simply, for lack of a common tariff, to facilitate trades inside the space defined with the territory of States members. Finland becomes an associate member in 1961 and separate member in 1986!; Iceland joins the organization in 1970. Liechtenstein adheres to it in 1991, being associated previously by its customs union with Switzerland. From January 1967, the AELE abolishes its internal tariffs. In 1973, Great Britain and Denmark leave the organization to join EEC, the current European Union. Portugal makes so much in 1986 it, as well as Austria, Sweden and Finland in 1995. The countries of the AELE sign individual, customs and commercial agreements, with the European Union and, in 1991 , two organizations decide to create a more spread common market, the European economic Space ( EEE), which came into effect in 1994, safe for Switzerland, which refused to join the EEE by referendum in 1992. THE AELE is administered by an advice{*council*}, established{*constituted*} by a representative of every State member. Advice meets three times a year, and its mission consists in overseeing the system of reduction of tariffs. A permanent commission assists advice in its activities. The seat of the AELE is in Geneva.
